News Release

Montgomery, Ala. – The Montgomery Biscuits announced today that the annual MAX Capital City Classic baseball game between the University of Alabama and Auburn University that has taken place in Montgomery since 2009 has been extended for another 2 years thru 2019.

The game has occurred annually over the past 9 years and has grown to be one of the most popular and in-demand events in downtown Montgomery. The 2017 game drew a standing room only crowd of 7,605, which set a Riverwalk Stadium baseball game attendance record.

“The 2017 MAX Capital City Classic was the first game I witnessed at Riverwalk Stadium”, said Biscuits Chief Operating Officer, Brendon Porter. “The energy and enthusiasm in the ballpark was second to none, and strengthened even further our excitement about the opportunities that exist in Montgomery. The Biscuits are thrilled to have extended our partnership with MAX Credit Union and these two outstanding Universities and look forward to another packed house on March 27th.”

The 2018 iteration of the game will take place on Tuesday, March 27th beginning at 6:35 PM and will be the 10th time the two schools have faced off in the capital city. The 2019 date has been tentatively set for Tuesday, March 26th, 2019.

Alabama baseball will enter the 2018 season under first year head coach, Brad Bohannon. Coach Bohannon is no stranger to the MAX Capital City Classic, however, having served as the pitching coach for Auburn during the 2016 and 2017 games. “This game is something special to both the Alabama and Auburn programs. The city of Montgomery and the Biscuits have been very welcoming to both programs and continue to put on a top-class event every year”, said Coach Bohannon, winner of the 2015 American Baseball Coaches Association and Baseball America National Assistant Coach of the Year Award. “I know our guys will be fired up to play in this game, and I am excited to see them compete against guys that they grew up with in the other dugout. I want our fans in Montgomery to be able to see a great performance from our guys, and I hope that Crimson Tide fans come away excited about a new brand of Alabama baseball.”

Auburn, coming off a successful 2017 season where they finished ranked 25th in the nation according to Baseball America and reached the NCAA Regionals, will look to continue their winning ways at Riverwalk Stadium under Coach Butch Thompson. “Last year’s game against Alabama was the largest attended game in Riverwalk history. That alone lets everyone know how our fans and the people in our state feel about the Capital City Classic”, said Coach Thompson. “The Biscuits’ staff and both universities go out of their way to make this game special, and we are happy to be a part of it.”

Tickets for the 2018 MAX Capital City Classic will go on sale to the public in January, but fans can get tickets now through purchasing any season ticket or mini-pack plan for the Biscuits 2018 season. Groups of 20 or more may also purchase tickets now. MAX Credit Union customers will have a special pre-sale opportunity beginning on Monday, December 4th .

And the best part, it happens right here in the River Region!” said MAX Chief Marketing Officer, DG Markwell. “Let’s come together for another sellout crowd on March 27th and show our support for both of these first-class Universities!”
